Do not plagiarise- есе /persuasive essay/
The problem of plagiarism is very actual now. I think everybody knows
what it is and how people use it nowadays. We can meet plagiarism
everywhere: when we read somebody’s essays, articles, when we listen to
music and hear the same melody with another song. So, what is a
plagiarism? According to Big Soviet encyclopedia: "Plagiarism means to
use somebody else’s work in your own work without a reference to
another author”. In my essay I want to find out whether plagiarism is
good or bad and how it influences our speech. Does it make our speech
poor and make us not to have our own pinions and thoughts or is it
better to use plagiarism because people can’t invent something new
anymore, can’t devise something unusual, some creative ideas because
all problems are mastered and investigated earlier.
To my mind, plagiarism is not a very good thing. A human is a living organism with its own thoughts and ideas. Using a plagiarism we stop thinking, it becomes easier to us to store other people’s thoughts than to express ours. One of the human’s aims in this life is to become an open-minded person and we can be so only with the help of thinking. But in case if we take someone else’s ideas, not ours, we will stop thinking, we will stop expressing our opinions. That of course is not good in the process of education and becoming an open-minded, educated and clever person. If it is so bad and destroying for us why do we use and like it so much? Just look around, there are no article, no pupil essay, no report that can be managed without a plagiarism. I always told my little sister that plagiarism should have a limit. And only in this case it will make her written works more interesting, will make her language more beautiful and that will mean that she really worked with extra-literature during preparing her written works. On the one hand I am right. Plagiarism can decorate your works somehow, but on the other hand it can do a lot of harm. Plagiarism won’t transmit your personality and sometimes people can’t use plagiarism competently. This is one philosophy: The more plagiarism a work contains – the better. There is a big problem here in Russia, when modern pupils instead of thinking or analyzing the information from different sources, just copy the best sentences from text in a book and get a high mark for this plagiarism. It’s a big problem for our nation because if the nation doesn’t think, it will die. I mean the morality of our nation will die. Another question I want to discuss in my essay is: Can we control plagiarism or not? How can we do it? To my mind we can’t control the usage of plagiarism in our educational process because not every school, not every university or whatever have such technical sources or a possibility for checking students works in order to eradicate plagiarism from our life. There is the admissible quantity of it in written works, just 10-15 per cent not more. So, to my mind we can control just the amount of plagiarism. Another reason why people don’t want to forget about stealing somebody else’s words and phrases is that teachers don’t want sometimes to spend a lot of time with students’ essays and it’s better for them to check it quickly and they don’t pay attention to the fact that it is a copy of an article that is taken from a special book for children essays. Teachers just close their eyes on it and do nothing. I think the cause of it is in some financial problems with teacher’s salaries, they don’t care of quality of the educational process, they just make money. That is why the quality of education nowadays in Russia is dropping. If we cant control plagiarism we can correctly reference the material we study. One of the possible ways of doing it is that we should sum up the most interesting ideas that describe the problem we investigate and explore and make a conclusion with the help of our own ideas. It is possible to comment on somebody else’s work but it is necessary to use your opinion and thoughts. In this case you will have a paraphrasing. That is an absolutely different thing if we compare it with plagiarism. In this case it will mean that you took a main idea of the problem by another author and developed it as you wanted. As a result you created a new point of view that have a meaning and can be interesting and helpful for other people. To conclude I must say, plagiarism is a bad helper in your writing activity. People should clearly understand all the main points of it. Plagiarism is not a paraphrasing, it doesn’t help you to create and develop your thinking abilities, it kills them. If you don’t want to be an ordinary human, uninteresting and stupid, use it, if not – don’t use it. Our modern world ad our everyday life nowadays need talented, creative humans. Every time when you want to use plagiarism imagine that you steal something in your neighbor house or bag. You do the same when you copy somebody else’s thoughts. Or just imagine that it is his creative view to this problem. How will you feel in this situation? | |
